The color is not as expected/pictured, but actually really beautiful! The fabric is sort of a canvas weave, but soft, and has more of a taupe/gray feel than what I would consider pewter. It's very neutral and will go with anything. The nailheads are brass. Everything went together as expected, despite some initial mix-ups in wrong screw placement due to the horrible directions. For the people complaining about the corners not being flush here's what I recommend. Place the support "L" brackets at the BOTTOM (underneath the metal frame) of the corners instead of the top (this is contrary to the directions). This works like a charm in keeping the bottom edges from pulling away when you bolt the upholstered sides to the frame. This bed needs a box spring for those asking about that. I recommend this bed if you have a budget, but want decent quality and a rich look. Great buy!
